Why an Engagement Shoot Might Be the Best Decision You Make Before Your Wedding Day

Let me be honest with you for a moment. When I suggest an engagement shoot to couples, the most common response I get is something like: “Oh, we’re not really the sort of people who like having our photo taken.”

And to that I say: perfect. You’re exactly the people who need an engagement shoot.

Here’s why.

The camera feels awkward — until it doesn’t

Most people aren’t used to being in front of a camera. And the thought of standing there while someone points a lens at you can feel… well, a bit weird. Your arms don’t know what to do. You smile and it feels forced. You suddenly forget how you normally stand.

Sound familiar? You’re not alone. It’s completely normal.

But here’s the thing: that feeling goes away. And an engagement shoot is the perfect place to let it go away before your wedding day.

By the time your wedding rolls around, you’ll already know me, you’ll know what to expect, and you’ll feel completely at ease in front of the camera. The result? More natural, beautiful wedding photos. It really is that simple.

What actually happens during an engagement shoot?

An engagement shoot with me at Ahuvi Wedding Photography is relaxed, fun, and completely low-pressure. We go to a location that means something to you — whether that’s a beautiful countryside spot, a pretty town, or somewhere else that feels like you — and we spend an hour or maybe a bit more just… being yourselves.

I’ll give you gentle direction when needed, but mostly I’m capturing you as you are: laughing, chatting, walking hand in hand, sharing a look. Capturing photos with me is like going for a walk with one of your friends – I we have fun together and I make it easy. But to be honest the best shots are always the ones where you’ve forgotten I’m even there.

The images are yours to keep and use

All of the images from your engagement shoot are yours to keep and use however you like – no restrictions. Lots of couples use them for:

  • Save the date cards – beautiful images of the two of you set the tone perfectly for your wedding.
  • Wedding invitations – why not use a stunning photo instead of a stock graphic?
  • Social media announcements – share your engagement news in style.
  • A framed print – to display at your reception or keep at home.
  • Share with family – it’s always great to give up to date photos

It’s a great way to try out locations

Not sure which part of your area photographs best? An engagement shoot gives us a chance to explore together and find those hidden gems – golden hour spots, beautiful backdrops, interesting textures – that we can then keep in mind for your wedding day couple portraits.
